Inspired Tales Competition - Terms and Conditions of Entry

Entrants are invited to submit an original story as part of the Inspired Tales writing competition (the “Competition”). Details of the prizes, and full terms and conditions of entry can be found below. By entering into this Competition, you agree that you have read these terms and that you agree to them. Failure to comply with these terms and conditions may result in your disqualification from the Competition. 


This Competition is run by Yoto Limited, a company registered in England with registered number 09542062 and registered office at Kemp House, 152-160 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX (“Yoto”).


The Competition is open for entries between 06:00 on 27 October 2021 and 23:59 on 31 December 2021.


No purchase is necessary to enter this Competition and will not increase your chances of winning.


To enter this Competition you must be (a) a resident of the United Kingdom, the United States of America, or Canada, (b) be the parent, carer or guardian of a child under 15 years of age, or an educator with written permission from the parent carer or guardian of a child under 15 years of age, submitting a valid story (“Story”) in compliance with the requirements below. 


In order to be considered for the Competition, a Story must:

  • Be original work, solely by the child, no co-authored works will be accepted
  • Be in English
  • Be entered into the correct age group of the child
  • Be within the word count / length appropriate to the age group of the child
  • Be submitted by a parent, carer or guardian on behalf of the child, who will be required to agree to these terms before entering into the Competition, by way of a check-box on the online submission form. 

An entry or Story will not be accepted if:

  • They are deemed inappropriate to the age range, offensive or in any way libellous
  • They exceed the word count (or relevant time limit)
  • They are in any way plagiarised, co-authored or written with the assistance of an adult
  • They tell a story, including original narratives, about existing characters protected by copyright (for example, we cannot accept a new story about Paddington, much as we love him!). 
  • They are sent directly from a child’s account without authorisation from parent/carer. Yoto reserves the right to ask for proof of permission. Entries without permission will be disqualified.

Only one entry per person will be accepted. Entrants may not win more than one prize. Multiple entries will be deemed to be invalid and may lead to disqualification.


The Competition is not open to directors or employees of Yoto Ltd. or their families, Yoto’s agencies Warren Johnson Ltd TA, W Communications and 5W Public Relations, employees of partner charities or their families, or anyone else connected with this Competition. Yoto reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants.

Yoto accepts no responsibility for entries that are incomplete, illegible, incorrect, corrupted or fail to reach Yoto by the closing date for any reason. Proof of posting or sending is not proof of receipt. Entries via agents or third parties are invalid. No other form of entry is permitted. Please keep a copy of your entry as we will be unable to return entries or provide copies.  


Prizes: 

The prize for the Competition consists of the following: One winner and two runners up will be awarded with the ‘Winners Package’ and ‘Runner up Package’ in each of the following categories: 

  1. UK residents

  2. North American residents 
    1. Under 9s
    2. 9-14 year olds

Runners up package: 

  • Yoto Player
  • Yoto Cards Bundle 
  • Adventure Jacket
  • Card Case
  • Headphones
  • £100 / $150 book voucher


Winners package:

  • Runners Up Package (all of the above) plus: 
  • Dedicated editing session with an expert/professional writer to refine your story
  • Professional recording of the story
  • Creation of story on to a Yoto Card and distribution through yotoplay.com 

The prizes will be awarded as follows: shortlisted stories will be selected by a panel of independent sift readers. We will contact shortlisted entrants to confirm the name and details of the child are correct. The shortlisted entries will be considered and runners up and winner will be selected from each of the relevant categories by Yoto’s independent judging panel. 


The winners of the Competition will be notified as follows: We will contact winners by email. In the event of a winner not responding after 14 days, we reserve the right to allocate the prize to another winner, or foreclose the prize. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted.



You can find out who has won a prize by sending a stamped addressed envelope, to (i) for UK residents: Inspired Tales Competition, Yoto Limited, Kemp House, 152-160 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, (ii) for North American residents: 348 4th Ave. #1011, Brooklyn, NY 11215, from 30 days after the closing date.


The prizes are non-transferable and there are no cash alternatives. Prizes are subject to availability. Yoto reserves the right to amend the specification of the prize or offer an alternative prize. In exceptional circumstances, Yoto reserves the right to foreclose the competition without notice.

By entering the competition, entrants agree to Yoto using their child’s name, age and submission in post-competition publicity. For the avoidance of doubt, no further information will be used unless entrants opt in for further media involvement. 


Any copyright, moral rights or other intellectual property rights in any Story submitted remain with the respective child. However, each entrant agrees on behalf of their child that in the event of a winning Story, to grant a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence to Yoto to edit, adapt, and feature any or all of the Story as a Yoto Card,its websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this Competition. We will pay royalties in accordance with our standard rates.


Entrants have a further option to opt in for their information to be shared with Yoto’s agencies (Warren Johnson Ltd, T/A W Communications and 5W Public Relations) and be considered for media involvement.


Your details will not be used for any other purpose, or passed onto any third parties, unless specified. Winners’ details may be shared securely with a third-party in order to fulfil the dispatch of competition prizes. Yoto will only use your email address and other personal information provided when entering the competition as outlined in our privacy policy.


As stated above, stories will be disqualified in the event of any inappropriate content. In instances where a story or submission suggests reasonable risk or concern to the wellbeing of a child, Yoto reserves the right to disqualify the entry and escalate the concern. Escalation will take place in line with Yoto’s safeguarding policies and procedures, which may include, but is not limited to, passing the submission on to relevant third party bodies involved in child protection and safeguarding.


Yoto’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.


Yoto may at its sole discretion disqualify any entrant found to be tampering or interfering with the entry process or operation of the website, or to be acting in any manner deemed to be disruptive of or prejudicial to the operation or administration of the Competition. 

 

Other than for death or personal injury arising from negligence of Yoto, so far as is permitted by law, all liability for any loss, damage, cost and expense, whether direct or indirect, howsoever caused in connection with the Competition or any aspect of the Prize is specifically excluded. All activities are undertaken at the entrant's own risk. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.

These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law. Disputes arising in connection with this Agreement shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
